The Rose and the Bulbul brings together dance, drama and live music, to tell a moving story of love and acceptance between people from different cultural backgrounds. The Bulbul is a boy looking for acceptance in a new land; he has riches from his heritage – a Mughal garden with its spiritual insights – to describe, if his new friend the Rose will listen. The Rose, too, is moved to rediscover the treasures of her European past.
A fabulous Islamic garden and Elizabethan rose garden are conjured up in an urban setting with the Rose and the Bulbul stilt figures a shimmering presence. Local children as a flock of birds and rows of rose bushes create a magical show.
